Institute of Language and the Polish Culture in Ghent
The Institute of Language and Polish Culture in Ghent runs a Polish weekend school for children and young people aged 3 to 18, helping them learn and deepen their knowledge of the Polish language and culture.
Our mission begins with the youngest learners where we focus on creating a friendly, joyful space where children can naturally learn the language through play, creative activities, and interaction with each other. As the children grow, these interactions become more meaningful for them and get structured in classes. Over time our youngest students build vocabulary, gain confidence in communication, and gently prepare for their primary education. That is why we focus on developing the four essential language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Additionally, we are encouraging the natural curiosity, independence, and intuitive discovering of our learners.
The Institute also offers Polish language classes at beginner level, especially designed for children from mixed-language families or for those who do not speak Polish at home.
Beyond regular lessons our Institute organizes cultural and artistic events, competitions, performances, and many other community initiatives which celebrate and promote Polish traditions. We also provide access to psychological and educational support, ensuring that families feel understood and supported. In addition to the core curriculum, students can participate in English and French classes, religious education, as well as regular art and creative workshops.
